let’s get the kids outside

At Conchitas, we acknowledge the benefits of nature to all children and create programming to support child-led nature-based opportunities for learning and play for all children and families.

We envision a world where nature access is available to everyone, and the exploration of clean and healthy natural spaces are woven into the childhood of their future stewards and protectors.

Nature is the original classroom and remains one of the best environments for holistic learning, growth and development of our young ones. Learning and play in outdoor environments offers a host of research-backed benefits for children and families to support their development and nurture their well-being.

Learning is always happening, especially for our youngest learners from birth to preschool age. Conchitas focuses on facilitating curated and informed experiences for children aged 0-6 to experience and explore nature in safe and age-appropriate ways as they grow, learn, and develop.

We know that getting children outdoors enhances their overall development and well-being.

In particular, we find that nature play and nature-based learning in early childhood offer:

  • Development of motor skills

  • Development and enhancement of communication skills

  • Demonstrated improvements to emotional regulation, and reducing symtpoms of anxiety and stress

  • Deepening of a sense of self and increasing understanding of relationships to others

  • Exploring and expanding physicality at all levels of ability

  • Building confidence and the ability to take appropriate risks

  • Exploring multiple sensory experiences and their impact on overall well-being

  • Exploring different learning pathways and intellectual strengths

  • Deepening the ability to connect to nature and developing a place-based identity that integrates environment

  • Development of ecological literacy - or, the ability to understand the interconnectedness of natural systems and how humans relate to them, fostering a deep appreciation for nature and enabling informed decision-making for a sustainable future

  • And so much more!

HOW we build programs for children and our community matters to us just as much as getting children outdoors. We invite you to read through our Community Agreements for more information on the inclusive culture and learning environment we are committed to fostering.

We would love to get outside with your family!
